What's Your Opinion on the Illinois Budget?
State income taxes...federal income taxes...sales taxes...fees...business taxes...it doesn't matter what they are called, there's one simple truth: all government funds come from the taxpayers.
In fact, Illinois gets more than $50 billion every year. Add that up and it amounts to more than $104,640 every minute of every day – 365 days a year. Each year, the Governor must provide the General Assembly with recommendations of how to spend that money.
This year, Governor Quinn created a website to allow the public to offer their ideas. The members of the Illinois Senate Republican caucus encourage taxpayers to weigh-in on the budget. In addition to the Governor's efforts, we created a brief survey. Senate Republican Leader Christine Radogno and other members of the Senate Republican Caucus will compile these survey results and give them to the Governor. The results will also help guide our decisions over the coming months and – we hope – encourage the Governor to listen to the taxpayers of Illinois.
